Located throughout downtown St. Augustine, the Art Walk spans across various districts. You’ll enjoy complimentary refreshments and live music. The Old Town Trolleys offers complimentary shuttle service to all of the galleries so you won’t have to worry about a thing!

5. Visit the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum

The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum is a fun day of discovery and breathtaking views. It’s located on Anastasia Island where you’ll be able to climb to the top and meet with a stunning 360-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s 219 steps to the top.

Besides the lighthouse is the maritime museum where you can explore the rich nautical history of the area, from shipwrecks and pirates to the lives of the lighthouse keepers and their families. Most boat tours will take you past the Bridge of Lions, the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, and the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. You’ll also have an opportunity to spot wildlife, including dolphins!

10. Take a Guided Historical Tour

Taking a guided historical tour of St. Augustine is both fun and inspiring! You’ll get a close-up view of the ancient city’s historical landmarks. From Castillo de San Marcos to Mission Nombre de Dios, the Tolomato Cemetery, and the Plaza de La Constitución. It’s an amazing way to explore what makes St. Augustine America’s oldest city!

Anastasia State Park is a short drive from the historic downtown and is 1,600-acres of untouched beauty. We love state parks and at Anastasia State Park you’ll find lush canopy of trees, four miles of beaches, and a chance to spot ospreys, eagles, and even sea turtles, depending on the season.

Available activities include kayaking through the salt marshes, hiking or biking along the nature trails, and exploring the area. The park’s ancient sand dunes and oceanfront views make it a perfect spot for laying out in the sun, swimming, or a romantic picnic.

Ok, this activity is the priciest on the list, but I wanted to include it. One of my philosophies when it comes to budget travel is to save aggressively on things that don’t matter to you as much so that you can splurge on what does and this activity may be worth a splurge!

A St. Augustine food tour is a great way to experience the culinary scene and get a taste of the local cuisine while also exploring the city. Most tours include a variety of dishes that will make up a full lunch or a full dinner. They are led by a local foodie who will take you to all the hidden gems that locals love.

You’ll learn a lot and your belly will be full too, what more could you ask for!

14. Embark on a Free Walking Tour

A free walking tour of St. Augustine was our favorite way to see the city. The tours depart daily at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. from Ponto Central and are about 90-minutes. It’s a great opportunity to see the sites and hear stories from knowledgeable local guides.

The best part is that it’s free! I think that walking tours make for the perfect first activity when in a new city because you get a lay of the land without paying for an expensive tour. Don’t forget to book the tour in advance so they know you’re coming.

15. Rent kayaks for a day on the water

Renting kayaks for a day on the water is a fun and active activity that will give you and your partner a unique vantage point of St. Augustine and the surrounding areas.

You can book a kayaking tour and several locations around St. Augustine, including the the Matanzas River and Anastasia State Park, offer kayak rentals. These sites provide easy access to some of the area’s natural environments, from Salt Run to the marshlands of the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve.

16. Take a wine tasting tour at the San Sebastian Winery

Taking a wine tasting tour at the San Sebastian Winery is a fun thing to do for couples that enjoy learning about and tasting wine. We definitely fall into this category! We love this because San Sebastian offers a complimentary, self-guided tour of the winery which also includes a tasting. There’s a short audio-visual presentation in the upstairs theater, where the art of winemaking comes to life.

17. Explore the Colonial Quarter

Exploring the Colonial Quarter in St. Augustine will take you on a journey back in time. This living history museum offers a a glimpse into the life of the oldest city in the United States through the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries.

You’ll explore re-created colonial buildings, and experience live demonstrations of blacksmithing, musket shooting, and more. The Colonial Quarter also offers an immersive experience with its two full-service restaurants themed to be part of the historical experience. There is admission fee is relatively affordable and includes guided tours and access to certain exhibits.

18. Attend the Night of Lights (seasonal)

Attending the Night of Lights in St. Augustine is a romantic and magical experience available seasonally from November through January. The event features over three million lights on the historic district’s buildings, trees, and landmarks.

I don’t know why, but I find night light displays so romantic, so this is definitely one of my favorites on the list! It’s also during this time that downtown businesses extend their hours. There are seasonal tours available with the trains and trolley tours as well as electric cart tours, boat tours, and even aerial tours.

19. Browse the art galleries and shops of Aviles Street

Aviles Street is the “oldest street in the nation” and the perfect backdrop for a romance. You can wander and peek into the galleries, pop into street’s boutique shops, and experience the St. Augustine art district.

Also along Aviles Street is the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum where you can get a glimpse into St. Augustine in the 1800s. Aviles Street not only offers a nice outing but the opportunity to support local artists and businesses in this charming part of the ancient city.

20. Go on a sunrise or sunset sail

Are you and your partner early risers? A Sunrise Tour at Lighthouse Park is a great way to start the day! My husband is not really a morning person, so we usually opt for a Sunset Cruise which is also perfect for scenic views of the city.

We like to pick tours that allow us to bring our own drinks and snacks that we can enjoy while sailing by landmarks like the Castillo de San Marcos, the majestic Bridge of Lions, and St. Augustine Lighthouse.

21. Visit the Fort Matanzas National Monument

The Fort Matanzas National Monument is a great way to experience the Spanish colonial history of Florida. It’s about 14 miles south of St. Augustine on the Matanzas River constructed in 1742 to guard the southern approach to St. Augustine.

Admission to all areas of the Fort Matanzas National Monument is free, including the ferry ride to the fort itself, which is subject to availability. But please make sure that you stop in the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center, not the St. Augustine City Visitor Center, to obtain your free boarding pass for the ferry.

The St. Augustine Distillery is a fun experience for couples who appreciate the crafting of a delicious cocktail. It’s located in a beautifully restored ice plant from the early 20th century.

23. Visit the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve

The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve (GTM Research Reserve) is an amazing experience the nature loving couple! Located approximately halfway between St. Augustine and Jacksonville, the reserve spans over 73,000 acres.

It represents a significant effort to conserve the natural biodiversity and beauty of the region, including salt marshes, mangrove wetlands, oyster bars, and unspoiled beaches, making it a key site for research, education, and conservation.

You can enjoy a wide range of activities, including hiking, kayaking through the estuarine waters to get an up-close look at the aquatic flora and fauna. Make sure you visit the Environmental Education Center featuring interactive exhibits about the natural and cultural history of the area. Birdwatching is another popular activity, with the reserve being home to a vast array of bird species.

It’s perfect for romantic strolls through the gardens of azaleas, camellias, and roses and exploring the coquina rock formations that line the beach. It’s nice for a picnic and amazing for photo opportunities. It’s a beautiful park and great for an affordable romantic experience.

25. Visit the St. Augustine Wild Reserve

If you or your partner are animal lovers then you must visit the St. Augustine Wild Reserve. Just a short drive from downtown St. Augustine, this non-profit sanctuary is a haven for unwanted exotic animals, providing them with a safe and caring home. The reserve offers guided tours by appointment when you can observe various wildlife such as lions, tigers, jaguars, and wolves.

The cost of the tour is a donation to the reserve, supporting their mission to care for and maintain the well-being of the animals. During the tour guides share insight into the importance of wildlife conservation.

We usually grab the first trolley in the morning, take it around the full loop, and then get off at the various stops. Mickler’s Landing Beach located in Ponte Vedra Beach near St. Augustine, is renowned for its distinctive pink coquina sand and dunes. It’s a beautiful setting to catch a sunrise and you can expect fewer crowds too.

The beach is well-equipped with convenient access, including a parking lot (which can fill up quickly on busy days), restrooms, and showers. You’ll love shelling and maybe find a shark tooth! It’s also a great spot for a picnic.

I have lived in Florida my whole life and have spent many times traveling up to Orlando to spend time at Disney World as an annual pass holder.

I’ve also stayed on-site at Disney-owned resorts, Disney Springs Area hotels, and off-site resorts and hotels. So, I know the ins and outs of figuring out Disney World accommodations.

From visiting during the off-season to using points and miles to help offset the cost or even erase it, you will have everything you need to plan your next trip to Disney World without breaking the bank on Disney World hotels.

Whether you’re planning a girls trip to Disney World, a magical romantic getaway, a family vacation, or a trip of any type, these tips will give you what you need to save money on Disney World hotels.

You can use that extra cash saved for Disney tickets, food or even souvenirs!

1. Visit during Off-Peak Dates

If you can be flexible with your dates, traveling during off-peak dates will save money on Disney World hotels. We like to check the Disney World crowd calendars to confirm the best times to visit, but it’s generally going to be during the weekdays while kids are in school.

Best Times to Visit:

Late January through early February
Late April through early June (before schools let out)
Late August through September

Late January through early February is after the holiday rush and before the spring break crowds. You can enjoy much cooler weather with fewer crowds. This is my favorite time to visit Disney World!

Late April through early June is another sweet spot between spring break and the start of the summer vacation season, with the bonus of nice weather.

Lastly, late August through September marks the end of summer and the start of the school year, which not only sees a decrease in crowds but also often lowers hotel rates and promotional offers direct from Disney World. Additionally, you want to avoid major U.S. holidays.

2. Use Points to book your Disney World Hotel

My favorite way to save on travel is to earn and redeem points and miles.

I like to do this by being strategic about my everyday spending and using credit cards, but you can also earn points without applying for new credit cards.

The point is to earn loyalty points on purchases you already plan to make so that you can get the most out of your money!

Luckily, Disney World has an “on property” hotel that can be booked with loyalty rewards points, the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin which is a Marriott property. This means that it can be booked with Marriott Bonvoy points!

3. Get reimbursed by your Credit Card

A great way to offset the cost of your hotel stay at Disney World is to use credit card points and miles to reimburse you for the purchase. The best credit card (in my opinion) to do this with is the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card.

Not only is it a great premium travel card with many travel benefits, but you can redeem miles and reimburse eligible travel purchases on the credit card statement.

The purchase must be coded as travel and can only be credited within 90 days of the travel purchase.

The Capital One Venture X does have a $395 annual fee, but don’t let that scare you there are ways to offset the annual fees to make them worth it.

Here’s how to get reimbursed:

Make Your Booking: Use your Capital One Venture X card to book your hotel stay. Ensure that the booking will be coded as travel. Usually, when you book directly with the hotel, it should be coded as travel.

Check Your Statement: After your stay, keep an eye on your credit card statement to confirm that the hotel purchase was indeed coded as travel and eligible for reimbursement.

Apply Reimbursement: Within 90 days of your purchase, you can apply your Venture Miles to cover eligible travel purchases.

The redemption is done at a fixed value of 1 cent per point. So if you have 100,000 Venture Miles, they are worth $1,000 for eligible travel purchases.

4. Book through a Credit Card Travel Portal with points

Another credit option for using credit card points is to book through the travel portal. This provides flexibility because even if you don’t have a credit card that can transfer points to Marriott or other hotel loyalty programs you may still be able to use your points to book hotels at Disney World!

Considerations When Booking Through a Portal:

Redemption Value: The value of points can vary significantly across different credit card travel portals. For instance, Chase Ultimate Rewards® points are redeemed at a fixed value of 1.25 cents per point for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or 1.5 cents per point with the Chase Sapphire Reserve®.

Availability and Restrictions: Some hotels on third-party booking sites or the hotel’s website might not appear in credit card travel portals. Some bookings made through these portals might not be eligible for hotel loyalty points or status benefits.

Promotions and Deals: Occasionally, travel portals offer special promotions or deals that enhance the value of your points or provide additional perks, such as room upgrades or late checkout. You’ll want to keep an eye out for these offers so that you can maximize your benefits.

Even if you don’t want to use your points to pay for the hotel through the credit card travel portal, it can still make sense to book this way if your credit card gives you a travel credit or offers bonus points.

As much as I love Disney-owned and non-owned hotels at Disney World, there are plenty of amazing options offsite as well. Disney-approved offsite properties near Disney World are called “Good Neighbor Hotels”.

Many of these hotel properties are with a variety of major hotel chains so you have the option to use points and book directly on the hotel website, maybe use a statement credit option or you may be able to find them on the travel portal.

The key to this strategy lies in purchasing Disney gift cards at a discount. Here’s how you can find discounted Disney gift cards:

Warehouse Clubs: You may find Disney Gift Cards at places like Costco, Sam’s Club, and BJ’s Wholesale at a slight discount. Even savings of 2-5% can add up, especially on larger purchases.

We all shop, so why not earn cash back on these purchases on top of any credit card points you may be earning? I’m talking about shopping portals!

These online portals offer a percentage of your purchase back in the form of cashback which can be cashed out for gift cards, deposited into your bank account, or in some instances, credit card points.

This can be another way that you save up for that trip to Disney World!

Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Members own points that they can use to book stays at DVC resorts. When members can’t use their points, they often rent them out, giving non members an opportunity to experience these resorts at a fraction of the cost.

How It Works:

Find a Point Rental Service or a DVC Member: You can rent DVC points directly from owners via forums, social media like Instagram or Facebook Groups, or websites dedicated to DVC rentals. There are also DVC point rental services which will act as a go-between for DVC members and renters.

10 Tips for Planning the Perfect Glamping Trip to Hillsborough River State Park

Are you looking for the perfect glamping adventure? If you’re like me, you love the outdoors, but when it comes to camping? Not so much. I need a bed and preferably a toilet and a shower. Is that too much to ask?

That’s why I’ve been dying to try “glamping”. It is an amalgamation of the words “glamorous” and “camping”. It’s camping but with many of the comforts of home. Some say it’s “cheating” but if it gets you enjoying the best parts of the outdoors then who cares!

For our first foray into the world of “glamping,” we spent 3 nights at Hillsborough River State Park near Tampa, Florida. We booked our deluxe bell tent through Timberline Glamping Tampa which hosts 6 beautiful canvas tents at this state park.

We learned quite a bit while preparing for our glamping adventure, so I compiled a list of 10 tips for planning the perfect glamping trip to Hillsborough River State Park. But the truth is, this list will help with almost any glamping destination.

In this guide, I’ll give you everything you need to feel prepped and comfortable making your glamping experience unforgettable. I’ll also give you some tips and helpful information specifically about our experience with Timberline Glamping Tampa. Get ready for a fun experience and happy glamping!

Tips for planning the perfect glamping trip with Timberline Tampa

Not only was this our first glamping experience, but it was our first real camping experience together. My husband is an Eagle Scout so he knows how to rough it, but not me. I am the first to admit that I like a campfire but then I like to go back to my hotel room.

But for our first time preparing for a camping trip, I think we did a pretty good job. We were very comfortable and had almost everything you could think of, so we felt prepared. So here are my top tips to help you plan your glamping trip.

1. Book Early

When we started looking in late November for our weekend stay in mid-February there were only 2 out of the 6 tents available. The only weekend left available was Superbowl weekend. Thankfully, we were flexible which is my best budget travel tip so we booked Superbowl weekend!

There are only 6 tents available at the site, so the earlier you book the more options you’ll have available. We booked a deluxe bell tent that came with a queen-sized bed, 2 end tables, a mini refrigerator, Keuring coffee machine, and a small seating area with 2 chairs. The tent was spacious and included air conditioning.

2. Prepare Meals and Snacks

Although there was a cafe at Hillsborough River State Park, it appeared to be closed during our stay. However, it didn’t matter because we had planned and prepared to eat all of our meals at the campsite.

I spent that week leading up to leaving for the trip cooking and prepping our food and snacks. Here’s what I prepared:

Breakfast Burritos
Homemade Chili for chili dogs
Cornbread so we could also have chili bowls
Bacon Ranch Chicken with potatoes
Steak with potatoes and vegetables

I froze the breakfast burritos, chili, steak and chicken to keep fresh on the car ride up to Tampa (about 3 1/2 hours). I brought plenty of aluminum foil to wrap each meal in to cook over the fire or on the grill. Everything worked out great and was very delicious!

For recipes, I just googled “campfire recipes” and I also got some inspiration from the Pioneer Woman website. Of course, I also packed our favorite snacks and some camp-appropriate snacks like beef jerky.

3. Have a Packing List

When it comes to glamping and camping you must have a packing list to go off of. There’s a ton of prep that goes into planning for the perfect glamping trip that it would be such a bummer if you forgot something essential.

We created a packing list in a Google doc for ourselves and it worked pretty well for us, but we did miss a few things. So I put together my own comprehensive glamping packing list that you can download!

4. Stay Hydrated and Sun-Protected

Hillsborough River State Park has a lot of shade and trees, but the sun and dehydration can creep on you. It’s important to bring plenty of water with you when venturing throughout the park.

I like to bring my water bottle carrier so I don’t have to worry about holding it. Most bottle carriers have a pocket where you can stick some sunscreen, a snack, and maybe your phone!

5. Plan for Relaxation

Yes, camping and glamping are all about the adventure but you don’t want to forget it’s also about relaxation. Bring your book, listen to your favorite podcast, and lay on one of the hammocks at the campsite. Each tent site had at least one hammock available during our stay.

My husband accidentally fell asleep while trying to read a book on the hammock. Sometimes, taking an unplanned nap is exactly what you need!

6. Follow Park Rules and Regulations

When we entered the park, we went through the Park Ranger station to give them the name on the reservation. They supplied us with a packet explaining the park rules and regulations.

Review everything, especially if you’re not used to camping or glamping. There is some information you may otherwise not know like don’t leave any food out that may attract animals like raccoons. Don’t leave anything out that has “food smells”.

Yes, this means even in your tent. We always packed all food in the fridge, sealed in the cooler, or locked in the car. We did not throw any food or anything that smelled like food in the trash can within our tent. This can still attract animals and you don’t want a raccoon trying to get into your tent in the middle of the night!

7. Check Weather Conditions

Regardless of where you are glamping, you should always check the weather conditions and plan accordingly. The weather in Florida can be unpredictable, so although there was no indication of heavy rain, we brought rain gear, including appropriate shoes.

Timberline Glamping Tampa does not cancel reservations due to rain, so if it looks like it’s going to rain during your stay be prepared! The tents are fitted for rain, so you won’t have to worry about rain leaking in.

8. Bring Outdoor Gear

If you’re looking to go glamping I’m guessing you may not have a lot of outdoor gear. I would recommend that you invest in a few things that will make life easier:

Multi-tool or Swiss army knife
Flashlights and lanterns
GPS/compass
Binoculars (for watching birds or other wildlife)
Radio

If you need anything there are opportunities to buy some supplies at the park. The park staff drove around with ice and firewood for sale and on certain nights they had a pop-up store with a few items. You can always contact the Ranger station for more information as well.

9. Pack Entertainment

As much as I love to take it all in and be “one with nature”, do not forget to bring some entertainment. We brought a book, a portable speaker, battleship, and playing cards. Timberline Glamping Tampa also had some games that you could rent like cornhole or giant Jenga.

10. Practice Campfire Safety

Fortunately, my husband is an Eagle Scout so I was not worried. But I can’t tell you how easy it can be for a fire to get out of control. If you’re not familiar with starting and maintaining a fire then brush up on campfire safety and bring some starters to make things easier on yourself!

How expensive is Glamping?

I will admit, that one other big difference between glamping and camping is the price tag. Glamping isn’t exactly a budget-friendly alternative to hotels. In total, we paid $265 per night for our deluxe bell tent, but I still had to walk to a shared bathroom and the shower was freezing cold!

However, I would still do it again because what I wouldn’t get from a hotel is the serene outdoor experience. We saved a lot more money because we cooked all of our meals and did not have to pay extra for any entertainment or activities.

What amenities are included in the glamping accommodations?

Yes! It felt like we were the only ones that did not bring dogs. Check the Timberline Glamping Tampa website for more details.

Do you have your own toilet when glamping?

I believe that there are glamping destinations where you have a private toilet and shower, but this was not the case with Timberline Glamping Tampa. We used a shared facility with the rest of the campsite at the park. It was mostly used by the glamping guests because the rest of the campers were in RVs.

Is Wi-Fi available in the glamping area?

During our visit, there was no Wi-Fi available, but our cell phone signal at the campsite was decent. If you need strong internet, I would recommend that you make your own arrangements.

What recreational activities are available?

There are several activities available at the park including canoe and kayak rentals, but you are also welcome to bring your own. Timberline Glamping Tampa also has various entertainment activities available as add-ons and rentals like bikes, giant Jenga, badminton, and cornhole.

Are there any dining options onsite or nearby?

Yes, there are restaurants, breweries, and wineries nearby. However, I think the point of glamping is to immerse yourself in nature and the peacefulness of the great outdoors. For that reason, I would recommend that you prepare and have all of your meals onsite.

Takumi-Tei is a hidden gem nestled in the Japan Pavilion at EPCOT and offers two tasting menus served in 5 elegant rooms. It’s the perfect romantic setting.

Narcoossee’s is located at Disney’s Grand Floridian with water views and is perfect if you’re in the mood for seafood.

Steakhouse 71 is located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a more casual setting and steakhouse ambiance.

Citricos is at Disney’s Grand Floridian right next to Victoria and Albert’s but has a more casual yet elegant atmosphere. It has the feel of a refined restaurant in London and is Mary Poppins-inspired inspired.

California Grill is located on the rooftop of Disney’s Contemporary Resort and has amazing views of the Seven Seas Lagoon. It’s an elegant setting and really great food and drinks.

Flying Fish is located on Disney’s BoardWalk and is a favorite for its sophisticated ambiance while you enjoy a selection of steak and seafood dishes.

Enchanted Rose is inspired by Beauty and the Beast and is located at Disney’s Grand Floridian. It has beautiful views of the water and an amazing selection of cocktails.

Nomad Lounge is nestled in Disney’s Animal Kingdom near Pandora. It’s a hidden gem that offers a nice escape from the park with a unique selection of cocktails and bites.

Disney’s Riviera Resort is my favorite and is inspired by the French Riviera offering elegance and sophistication with its stunning architecture and panoramic views. The Grand Floridian is another favorite with its timeless beauty and Victorian-inspired design.

Disney’s BoardWalk captures the essence of a seaside boardwalk with romantic dining and entertainment. Animal Kingdom Lodge offers a unique experience with its breathtaking savanna views. The Polynesian will immerse you in a tropical paradise, complete with lush surroundings.

While Disney does not offer specific complimentary services for anniversaries, they do provide several ways to make your anniversary celebration truly memorable. One of the simplest is the complimentary celebration buttons, including the “Happy Anniversary” buttons, which you can request upon arrival.

Are there any special accommodations or services available for couples celebrating their honeymoon? Absolutely! Disney World offers special accommodations and services for couples celebrating their honeymoon, making it an even more enchanting experience. How far in advance should I make dining reservations or book experiences for my anniversary celebration? In general, you’re usually not able to book dining or other experiences until 60 days out. If you’re staying at a Disney Resort then you’re able to start booking 60 days out from your arrival for the entire length of your stay.

Are there any recommended times of the year to visit Disney World for a more romantic and less crowded experience? Yes, you’ll want to visit Disney World when school is in session and not during major holidays. The weekdays are generally less crowded and make for a more quiet and intimate experience.

Are there any special shows or performances that are particularly romantic and suitable for an anniversary celebration? Yes! You’ll want to check out the enchanted extras, but any of the fireworks dining and dessert party experiences as well as the boat fireworks viewing experiences would be perfect for an anniversary celebration.

What season is the cheapest to go to Florida?

The cheapest season to visit Florida is generally during the summer months because it’s very hot and humid (I know, I’ve lived here my whole life). Despite the heat and humidity, Florida is still an amazing place to visit in the summer.

You’ll have beautiful sunny mornings with scattered showers and thunderstorms almost every afternoon. Keep in mind that this is when the kids are out of school. If you want to avoid the summer camp crowd, you may find good prices during late summer/early Fall months like August and September.

To get the best deals, try to book in advance and be flexible with your travel dates. Try being open to exploring different areas within Florida besides the major cities like Orlando or Miami. There are so many hidden gems in Florida and this can help you find better deals too.

Tips for traveling to Florida on a Budget

Planning a romantic getaway in Florida on a budget requires a bit of creativity and willingness to explore spots off the beaten path. Here are some tips to jumpstart your planning!

Choose the right timing: The weekends are usually hectic, especially at the really popular Florida destinations. Travel during the off-season and/or on the weekdays when you can usually find lower prices. Avoid major holidays and school breaks and try booking in advance or snagging last-minute deals on flexible dates.

Look for budget-friendly accommodations: I love the big chain hotels, but sometimes you can find some nice deals on less-known accommodations, like vacation rentals and mom-and-pop beachfront hotels. Try searching hotels on Google Maps or Hoteslash.

Utilize loyalty programs and travel rewards: If you have travel rewards or loyalty points, use them to offset the cost of flights, hotels, or car rentals. Research and compare different loyalty programs to find the ones that offer the best value for your travel style and needs. Make your own meals: You can save a lot of money by making your own breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We love getting an affordable place with a kitchen or at least a refrigerator so that we can have breakfast and/or pack a lunch. We’ll then use the money we saved to go out for dinner.

Explore free or low-cost activities: There are so many things to do in Florida that are low-budget. Enjoy long walks on the beach, explore state parks, visit local markets or festivals, and take advantage of activities like hiking, swimming, or picnicking.

Take advantage of happy hour and early bird specials: I’m not a night person so one of my favorite things to do is go out for a happy hour or an early dinner. There are a lot of restaurants that will have discounted pricing anywhere between 3-7 pm. We enjoy half-priced drinks and food and can still be back in time to enjoy the sunset and an evening walk on the beach!

Research local deals and discounts: Check local websites and social media for deals and discounts on attractions, tours, or restaurants. I also like asking the guest service team members at our hotel or vacation rental about where they like to go and what they like to do.

Consider alternative destinations: Popular tourist destinations like Miami or Orlando can be expensive, so you should consider exploring smaller towns or less-known areas in Florida. They often offer more affordable options for accommodations and activities. And they are just as beautiful and fun if not even more so.

The Florida Keys is a string of tropical islands stretching off the southern coast of Florida with crystal-clear turquoise waters, and breathtaking sunsets. One of the best of the Keys for a romantic getaway that you should definitely check out is Key Largo.

There are plenty of budget-friendly accommodations, such as beachside cottages, affordable hotels, and vacation rentals. Exploring the Keys’ natural beauty with opportunities for snorkeling, kayaking, and swimming in coral reefs. The Keys are also known for their fresh seafood at local seafood shacks and waterfront restaurants on a budget. You’ll really enjoy taking a scenic drive along the Overseas Highway.

Ok, hear me out on this one! You’re probably like ok, wait Miami is so expensive! And you’d be right if you were thinking about the expensive areas in Miami, but Miami is big. Miami Beach is a barrier island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic. It’s connected to the rest of Miami by a series of causeways.

Of course, Miami Beach can also get very expensive, but if you plan your trip right and use points and miles, you can find great deals on accommodations and flights. There are also a lot of free and cheap things to do in Miami Beach like hanging at Lincoln Road, Art Deco walking tours, and South Pointe Park.

2. Tampa Bay

Tampa Bay is on Florida’s Gulf Coast and has its own vibe compared to the Southeast coast of Florida. It’s a super popular area, but it also has a ton of budget-friendly activities while also being a beautiful place to visit.

You’ll want to grab a Tampa Bay CityPASS and get a bunch of stuff to do at one low price. The attractions include things like Busch Gardens, The Florida Aquarium, and a Dolphin or Sunset cruise. As a Southeast Florida native, I feel like everyone should know about Fort Lauderdale, but it gets overshadowed by Miami. I love Fort Lauderdale for the beaches, the Riverwalk, and the lively vibe similar to Miami but much more accessible. There’s no shortage of fun activities which also makes it perfect for a Fort Lauderdale bachelorette trip!

8. St. Petersburg

Located on Florida’s Gulf Coast, St. Petersburg, or “St. Pete” is a city with a vibrant arts scene and a fun vibe. Check out the St. Pete Pier, visit the waterfront of Downtown St. Petersburg, or go on an island sunset and skyway light show.

9. Fort Myers

Located on the Gulf of Mexico, Fort Myers is where my husband’s family spent 1 week every summer for over 20 years. It’s truly a special place, with amazing beaches, and beautiful sunsets. Fort Myers is also the gateway to the barrier islands of Sanibel and Captiva. There are plenty of outdoor activities including a sunset dolphin tour.

10. Pensacola

Located on the western edge of the Florida Panhandle, Pensacola has stunning white sand beaches, historic buildings, and museums which include free admission on certain days of the week. Explore Big Lagoon State Park or take a scenic boat tour to see the dolphins!

11. Tallahassee

Located in the panhandle of Florida, Tallahassee is home to the Florida State Seminoles, my alma mater! But it’s so much more than that. Tallahassee is rich in history and culture. You can visit the Florida Historic Capitol Museum or Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, there’s also a vibrant downtown district where you’ll find plenty of restaurants. You can even take part in a scavenger hunt!

12. Cocoa Beach

Located on Florida’s Space Coast, Cocoa Beach is all about sun, sand, and affordability. Explore the Thousand Islands Conservation Area and kayak through the mangrove tunnels. You can enjoy a picnic, walk along the beach, or embark on a dolphin tour on the Banana River.

13. Amelia Island

Amelia Island is located in Northeast Florida not far from Jacksonville and offers coastal charm, architecture, and plenty of affordable activities. Visit Amelia Island State Park, go shelling, check out Centre Street downtown, or enjoy the outdoors by going on a guided kayak tour!

14. Key West

Nestled at the southernmost point of the United States, Key West has a laid-back vibe and is a tropical haven with a variety of fun budget-friendly activities. St. Augustine is on Florida’s Northeast coast and is the oldest continuously occupied settlement in the United States. It’s a beautifully captivating destination with rich history and charm. 17. Marco Island

Located on the Gulf of Mexico in Southwest Florida, Marco Island offers plenty for nature enthusiasts such as the Briggs Nature Center, beautiful sunsets, and outdoor activities like Dolphin-Watching. Be sure to check out downtown Marco Island for casual seafood eateries and waterfront views!

18. Crystal River

West Palm Beach is located on Florida’s east coast and is my hometown! It offers a mix of cultural and outdoor activities and of course amazing scenic beauty. 24. Lake Placid

Lake Placid is in the heart of Central Florida’s Highlands County. The town is known for its 27 freshwater lakes, making it the perfect place for a fishing getaway. Lake Placid’s Lake June-in-Winter Scrub State Park has a ton of low-cost and free nature activities like hiking trails, birdwatching, and opportunities to observe the unique scrub habitat.

25. Hollywood Beach

Hollywood Beach is located in the greater Fort Lauderdale area and stands apart from your typical Fort Lauderdale beach with its charming Broadwalk—a 2.5-mile brick-paved promenade adorned with shops, restaurants, and cafes. It’s a good alternative if you’re looking to be further away from the hustle and bustle of Fort Lauderdale.

Tips for Planning a Cheap Weekend Getaway in Florida

Use Public Transportation: Florida isn’t known for its public transportation, but depending on your destination there may be some viable options.

Cook Meals: One of our favorite things about vacation rentals or any accommodations with a kitchen or kitchenette is being able to cook breakfast and make lunch so that we can splurge on dinner!

Look for Free and Low-Cost Activities: Research free or low-cost attractions, parks, and beaches. You may be pleasantly surprised at how much you can do at very little cost.

Which part of Florida is the cheapest to vacation?

North Florida is usually the cheapest to vacation in Florida. Cities like Jacksonville, Tallahassee, and Pensacola are much more affordable compared to the more touristy areas in Central and South Florida.

You can find cheaper places to vacation near Central Florida if you avoid Orlando and instead explore areas around Ocala or Winter Haven. Cocoa Beach or Daytona Beach are also great options for affordable beach vacations.

West Palm Beach is the ultimate vacation destination, from the stunning beaches and water sports activities to luxury hotels, restaurants, and nightlife, you can’t go wrong.

Its close proximity to popular destinations like Fort Lauderdale and Miami, both of which are just a short train ride away on the Brightline, makes it an even more convenient and attractive option for anyone looking for a fun vacation.

What is the best time to visit Palm Beach FL?

Palm Beach, Florida is a great year-round destination, but that also depends on your preferences and what you’re looking for in a vacation destination.

Florida is popularly known as the Sunshine State, but it’s worth noting that it can rain heavily at times, especially between May to October. Additionally, the hurricane season in Florida runs from June to November, so it’s important to keep this in mind while planning your trip. This doesn’t mean you should entirely avoid visiting during hurricane season, but it’s always better to be prepared.

During the summer months, from June through September, Palm Beach experiences higher temperatures and humidity, with temperatures ranging from the mid-80s to mid-90s. While the water is warm, this time of year can be uncomfortable for outdoor activities. But if you don’t mind the heat, you may be able to find good deals on hotels and activities during this time.

For milder temperatures, the best time to visit is during the fall and winter months. Springtime temperatures begin to rise, but March and April are still great months to visit Palm Beach and the surrounding areas.

Do Spring Breakers go to St. Augustine?

Unlike cities such as Miami or Panama City Beach, St. Augustine is not known for its wild party scene or college crowds.

That being said, there are still plenty of things to do in St. Augustine during spring break. It’s a great destination if you want to enjoy the city’s historic sites, visit the beaches, or enjoy one of the many festivals or events that take place throughout the year.

And while the nightlife may not be as wild as in other cities, there are still plenty of bars and restaurants. Personally, I think St. Augustine would be great during spring break because it’s likely to be less crowded than other popular destinations.

So even though St. Augustine may not be a top choice for spring breakers looking for a wild party scene, it’s still a great destination for anyone looking for a fun and unique vacation experience.
